You might also consider using software raid instead hardware raid.
I did a quick lookup on that card and it doesn't appear to have battery
backed cache (infact there appear to be no claims of a cache at all).
So it looks like it is a cheap consumer card. You are better off using
software raid than one of those. Software raid will typically be faster
and you will have more flexibility in changing things down the road.
(E.g. if the card dies, you don't have to get hold of the exact same card
to avoid having to rebuild your array from backups.)
Usually there will be a way to just use the card as an IDE controller and
not have any of the raid stuff activated. If you do that, then you shouldn't
need to install aspecial kernel module.
