Cursor leaves vertical black lines in several applications

Hi,

one of my clients has a strange problem, when moving the cursor around in
several applications under KDE.
The cursor leaves a vertical black line in every position it was moved to.
Can be very confusing to find out, where the cursor actually is, at the
moment.
This behaviour occurs in text editors, mail program, in fact it occours in
almost every appilcation where there is a text input field.

Anyone have an idea, where to start looking ?
Is it KDE or is it xorg ?
