ACPI Question

I get this problem whenever my battery gets completely discharged. I 
usually don't let that happen but at times I forget I'm not plugged in. 
After this, the battery applet never shows that there is no battery 
present. In gkrellm the battery display doesn't come up at all. 
/proc/acpi/battery too contains nothing.
I fix this problem by removing and re-inserting the battery.
