I found that my old HP scanner was not supported, so I spent a
day correlating the list of supported scanners on the sane web
site with the list of scanners actually available for purchase
in local office supply stores and found exactly 1 scanner
in both lists - the CanoScan LIDE 60 :-).

I bought one, and plugged it in (USB 2.0) and it "just worked"
for me.
