well, i could, but that would be cheating.  :-)  seriously, i recall
that this has happened before but i don't think i needed to do
anything to fix it, a newer kernel just solved the problem.

i'd rather track down the problem.  when i try to run the sound test,
what i get is:

"Automatic detection of the sound card did not work.  This audio
device will not be available on the system."

which then refers me to /root/scsconfig.log and /root/scsrun.log, so
i'm going to poke around there for a while.  has no one else gone
through this as well?
