It does have symptoms related to a GUI problem. You can probably see if 
there is any clues in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log or the 
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old file if in text mode. Just use the .old file for 
problems if diagnosing using the GUI. The /var/log/Xorg.0.log contains 
info related to the current session and probably will not contain info 
about the lockup. The old log should be the crashed session.

It could be the mouse interaction with X or it might relate to the type 
of video hardware that you have on the machine. You might need the lspci 
info with the video hardware information to allow others to be able to 
help you better. I see you are using the 64-bit version so this might be 
something that is specific to the 64-bit version.
