You should ask Adaptec if they support it. The open source Linux drivers
don't support the adaptec proprietary raid modes because adaptec won't
open them. 

If you want a supported SATA raid card that actually does hardware raid
then the 3ware cards work extremely well. In general however you might as
well use software raid and most software raid setups on PCI Express are
as fast or faster than hardware ones. Another significant advantage of
open source software raid is you can move disks between different vendors
controllers which is not possible with many closed solutions (and indeed
is precisely why some of these vendors close them - to make switching
product lines hard).
