FC5 fails to boot with BT878 card

My FC5 linux server fails to boot with a BT878 card installed.  This has been working for a couple of years now.  One 
day last week, it just stopped working.  The boot process hangs at the Starting UDEV phase.  I 've had to remove the 
card from my server.

I moved the card to another FC5 box, and the system boots okay.  So, I believe the card is still good.

I must have changed something, but I'm stumped as to what it could be.

How can I debug/diagnose this problem?
