compiler problems

It sounds like you may need the m4 package in additional to the
normal development tools for this package. At least I am used to
seeing dbl: as part of m4 files. (Delete to Blank Line or something
like that - anyway, ignore from here to end of line. Great for
comments or disabling a like...)
