Have you tried running beryl from CLI?  Maybe it will tell you
something useful.  I don't recall how to do that off the top of my
head though.

I had a hard time getting Beryl to work correctly with the nVIDIA drivers. It took turning on a huge pile of options in the config program.

Here is my xorg.conf. It works for me.
