mount -t smbfs ... fails

On my new FC7, I ran a
   mount -t smbfs ...
command that runs on an old FC4 system. I get:
   mount: unknown filesystem type 'smbfs'
so after some checks, I successfully ran:
   yum install samba
It didn't help.  What am I missing?
