How hot is hot! for a cpu?

No it won't, a P4 might typically run 42-55C depending on load and 
cooling, a Pentium-M or Core2 I would expect 8-10C cooler. Obviously 
ambient counts, but 10-12C above ambient for P-M or Core2 is ballpark 
for the assorted six in this room.
