Nope, I have a remote server that came with FC1 and has been
continuously upgraded through to FC6 without problems.  yum has been
around for many Fedora versions too and has always been able to sort out
a whole dist upgrade.

I think I would begin to suspect I was hearing generic FUD and not
"abuse"...
