Shutting down Fedora-7

Try hitting a key on the keyboard once the screen blanks.  This used to 
work in FC6, but I haven't tried it lately.  The behavior is most likely 
a result of the "quiet" option specified at boot up.  Alternatively you 
could remove that option when booting.

As to the firefox issue:  Maybe not enough time elapses between the 
"shutting down..." and the "killing..." events at shutdown.
