in /home

what about /tmp /var as suggested (if you have separate partition for
these...?

So you upgraded the system and keep /home unchanged? So "old" config
files are there... I had a big similar problem when I upgraded from fc4
to fc6, some config are not backward compatible and I had to make a
fresh new config.
