Window won't go away

I use XFCE instead of Gnome or KDE so perhaps that makes a difference?

I've tried numerous times and can't stop kill!  It's not something I 
often need to do, usually if I invoke kill it's for a particular app. 
and I'm desparate to get rid of it.
