Agree, Thinkpads are nice. I have a R50E with intel ipw2200.
It was a bit hard to get it to wake up from sleep, but I posted a 
workaround in
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=184033

The built in modem won't work (, I suppose it will if you buy a driver).

Other than that everything works fine. Don't forget to install tpb to 
get special
buttons and on screen display of settings to work as they are supposed to.
