No, add your ISP's primary and secondary DNS servers ie. Don't
let your router to an "automatic" lookup BUT  you should provide
the dns servers ips manually in the routers config. I am sure a good
router will allow you to do this via it http interface. But a good router
will also not have a buggy dns server ;-).

The other thing you can try is disabling IPv6 in FireFox. If it allows you
you to access/browse more sites, then it is definately a problem with
your routers DNS server...

What router are you using, D-Link ones are know to be buggy in NZ?
