Wolf:

I should have thought of that!

[root at rabbitbrush knute]# tracert -T -p 25 mx3.sun.com
traceroute to mx3.sun.com (192.18.43.24), 30 hops max, 40 byte
packets
 1 lonejuniper.frazmtn.com (208.1.40.41) 0.512 ms 0.479 ms 0.283
ms
 2 ppwire1.frazmtn.com (208.1.40.1) 3.851 ms 4.542 ms 5.286 ms
 3 207.181.15.129 (207.181.15.129) 10.443 ms 12.498 ms 13.131 ms
 4 207.181.15.193 (207.181.15.193) 16.877 ms 17.519 ms 18.124 ms
 5 207.181.15.193 (207.181.15.193) 18.761 ms !X 19.380 ms !X

This just confirms what I thought and that is that my ISP has blocked
outbound port 25 again.
