Sound card on server from a LTSP terminal

Using Fedora Core 6, I have the following entry
in /etc/security/console.perms.d/50-default.perms:

<console> 0666 <sound> 0666 root

And my /dev/dsp looks like this:

<console> 0666 <sound> 0666 root

Yet, when I go to play a sound from a terminal I get a message saying to check
& make sure the sound card is configured correctly.

If nobody is logged in on the server then it works as it should.

What am I missing?
