One big plus for vmware is that the guest images are portable across 
hosts.  If you build an interesting VM guest on your windows version you 
would be able to copy it over to a Linux box or a Mac (in beta) and it 
will run just the same there.  Another is the huge assortment of 
prebuilt VM images you can download from
http://www.vmware.com/vmtn/appliances/directory/.
