Weird update behavior on FC6 upgrade

Hi, gang.
I've been hesitant to do this, but I have an Athlon machine still
running FC5 (simply because it worked and I didn't want to mess with
it). I've decided to take the plunge and put FC6 on it (like all my
other machines). So, I've backed up all the stuff I need, booted
the FC6 DVD and started the upgrade process.
Everything's fine until it finishes the process of locating stuff to
upgrade. Then anaconda spits out a message saying it can't unmount
the DVD to continue the process and to verify I don't have anything
on a console that would hang it up.
I've done that and no, there's nothing on any of the console screens
that have the thing in a state where it can't be unmounted. Even an
"lsof" shows that, however the damned thing will not unmount.
I've tried this several times with "noapic", "hdc=nodma" and several
other boot options and it always sticks at the same place. Has anyone
else experienced this? I hesitate to do a full install since I really
don't want to lose this machine completely. It wouldn't be the end of
the world, but it could get a bit sticky.
I suppose I could do a fresh install. I also suppose I could upgrade
off CD-ROM instead of DVD in case this is a DVD-specific glitch. I hate
having to sit there and swap CDs, though. Yes, I'm a lazy sucker!
Any suggestions?
