zero-length modules.dep

Hi Folks,

I am facing the following problem. Everytime I run modprobe as root to load
a kernel module, the modules.dep is cleaned forcing me to run depmod -a again.
Any workaround for that?

Kernel version is 2.6.18-2798.fc6.i686
