Open evolution.  On Edit>Preferences choose the Mail Preferences Icon on
the left side.  In the General tab, under Delete Mail (about 2/3 of the
way down) click the box empty trash on exit.  Choose a frequency you
like.  Click close.  You should be all set.  For an immediate delete,
choose the trash folder, right click on it, and choose "Empty Trash".

You should be all set.
