How to maintain backup kernels?

Paul,

  You can disable the installonlyn files by changing 
enabled=1 to enabled=0 as super user su -.  Or
alternatively you can leave it enabled but change 
tokeep=2 to tokeep=4 or some number you want maybe 5. 


[olivares at localhost Downloads]$ cat
/etc/yum/pluginconf.d/installonlyn.conf
[main]
enabled=1
# this sets the number of package versions which are
kept
tokeep=4
[olivares at localhost Downloads]$
