f8: NetworkManager + runlevel 3 problem

So you have your laptop at work, connected by ethernet?
Then you turn it off, and bring it home?
Then you connect it by WiFi?

I do this all the time,
and don't find any need to say ifdown.
The interface only comes up if the device is connected.
