fedora 8 on vmware or virtual box

hi folks,

i'm trying to install fedora 8 as a guest on my laptop running xp. when i try vmware
installation stalls on windows that asks if you want to test the media or skip. the
keyboard appears unresponsive.

when i use virtualbox, installation completes. however, fedora fails to boot when i
reboot the virtual machine.

any ideas?

i'm using the latest versions of both virtualbox and vmware
