It sounds like an extreme measure to reinstall because of an X driver. I
was tempted to go from the rawhide version back to Fedora 8 when X would
not start on reboot from an Fedora 8 to a rawhide upgrade. My options
were limited though because I still did not get around to burning the F8
iso to disc. No disc, no way to easily upgrade.
After logging into a root terminal, I used midnight commander and
removed the xorg.conf file. I then unthinking logged into another
virtual terminal as a regular user. I typed startx in the user terminal
and X started.
The big surprise that this worked is because when I tried to run
system-config-display --reconfig from root, the mouse did not work so it
was useless. I guess the synaptics driver is busted so s-c-display must
be checking for snaptics drivers prior to configuration. I don't know
why since there is no need for scrolling using the tool.

About the radeon driver and the new server and driver. The text seems
sharper and less washed out. It is not substantial. The log for Rawhide
with the radeon driver is attached.

I guess the rest is to say the new X by user perspective works better. I
would not recommend rushing out to try the rawhide version just yet.
I'll leave the other issues to bugzilla regarding the radeon driver and
synaptics breakage which is already known about.
