It is an easy way to do it. But it only affects the user that runs
it. You can edit /etc/sysconfig/desktop to change the default.

It is also possible, if you are in run level 3, to pick the
desktop/window manager by the way you start X. You may have file
like startkde and startfluxbox that start specific window managers.
You may also want to read the startx man page. (Not an easy man page
to understand.

I forgot to mention that you can also pick the desktop/windows
manager you want for the current secession on the login screen.
Check out the options button.
