Have a look at the future directions section of the "Codec Buddy"
feature pages up on fedoraproject.org:

The first goal listed for future Fedora versions is:

"Pluggable sources, so 3rd-party repositories/vendors can install their
own sources of codecs (such as repositories offering patent-restricted
codecs in packages)"

If you live in a place where that's legally possible, you're fine (and
lucky!). On the other hand, Codeina provides the hooks to allow those
living in less enlightened parts of the world to easily get a supported,
working, legal set of codecs to use on Fedora (although I did notice the
current fluendo codecs need a bunch of textrels.. grr!).
