"apt" to eventaully replace "rpm"?

The 'original' APT, the one from debian (and now ubuntu) uses .deb files.

However, the apt you get on Fedora uses RPMS - its a port of the .deb 
version to use .rpm instead.

So the answer depends on where you run it.
