The e2label command. To see what Michael asked: e2label /dev/sda2
It can also set a label, but the command example I gave will just
display the current one. You might want to go through all your
partitions, and see what they are. But just looking through this
thread, I think you've tangled yourself in a knot.

Using FC 4, 5, 6 & 7, plus CentOS 5. Today, it's FC7.
