Experiencing the Grub Error 17

'grub-install /dev/sda' works fine with the rescue CD.

However, I still get the grub prompt when booting. This is a bit
annoying, as, in order to have it completing the boot, I have to run
the command

configfile (hd0)/grub/grub.conf.
