fwiw I have a thinkpad r40 with a 15" screen that does 1440x1050 (the 
panel's Samsung). I've not seen a desktop monitor advertised in any of 
the usual places that comes close to my eyes, and that's a few years old.

I don't like widescreen, but you may differ. It makes no sense to me to 
chop a 1280x1024 screen down to 1280x800. You may differ. I don't like 
reflective screens, I can hardly see anything other than my white tee shirt.
