F7 hangs after INIT: booting

I have been using F7 happily on an AMD 64 machine until last night.  I 
rebooted the machine after yum updating (except for the kernel) the 
previous day.  Now it hangs in the boot process after

INIT: version ... booting

I have this machine setup to dual boot F7 and FC6.  FC6 still boots just 
fine.  When I boot FC6 and try to chroot to the F7 installation, that 
also hangs.

Any ideas on what the problem is?  Here is my yum log:
