i don't have kwin as I a using gnome.
And il my updated googleearth I do not find atmosphere option

i use gnome too, however there was a message on startup of google earth, which I didn't read the first time, but second. It says to upgrade the graphics(was it driver) to run 3D faster, there hsould be help on google regardign this. On my current system it is not usable, too slow.
