NetworkManager - similar hassle , anyone ?

Yes, i'm using F8.
It works, by disabling NM, + setting static IP,mask and GW using
system-config-network.
HOWEVER it semes that Pidgin, Evolution and auto-updater is so focused
on NM that these programs don't work as (i) expected.
Evolution now starts offline, and pidgin won't connect but is left in a
state of "waiting for network connection".
And i'm notified that my system isn't receiving any updates due to lack
of network connectivity.
Just because NM doesnt have a network connection (NM=disabled) this -
false - state shouldn't propagate to other programs wich just need a
network connection, - wich, in fact, there _is_ ..
