Using Vim and ! commands

Sorry for asking a dumb question, but I cannot figure out
how to use Vim's command line to either echo the buffer
contents or the current-file using the command (!)
What I want is something like this:
:!cat <current-buffer OR current-file> | sort | uniq
where <current-buffer> OR current-file is used
Is there a special keyword that I can use for the
<current-buffer> or <current-filename>?
Thanks!
Dan
