I'm not sure what you mean by the generic term "virtualization". Is
your linux virtualized under some other system, or do you want to run
other systems under your Linux?

In general, if you have a running system, you can install whatever
packages you need in order to run what you want to. Only 1 of my 3 home
Linux systems is capable of running virtual machines (its my laptop, my
"servers" are too old and slow to run virtual machines under Linux, one
of them is a K6-2 500, which is a i586 machine). So, my laptop runs
Windows XP Pro using VMWare under Linux.

If you are able to install a Linux system, you can add whatever RPMs you
need to run what you need. The line between "desktop" and "server"
blurs once you start installing more packages (or even whole package
groups).

Work on getting a working system first. Then worry about what you can
add to it.
