i agree with all that you have said above to top. there is one acceptance,
'you are not alone'. i tried pulseaudio on mandriva a while back and with
no luck. besides, pulseaudio site does prove from what all they show, that
others have tried it and it failed.

my only other suggestion is when you go to move out from f9 to f10, disable
ac97. then *install* f10 with only audigy board and if you desire [tho i can
understand why you would not] give pulseaudio another try.
