Hello Geoffrey,

VHDL is a hardware description language used to design chips/FPGA.
Verilog is another example.

You can find an example of such VHDL file here:

To me, it is nothing more than a text file on your computer. However
to make use of this VHDL file, you might need some EDA tools.
