f8 fonts install

Bonsoir,

What is the philosophy to install new fonts in fedora 8? Where do I put
them? What is this directory: /etc/X11/fontpath.d for? Shall I make a
link to the directory where I have put my new fonts? Will chkfontpath do
it?....

BTW I installed indic fonts "lohit", but I can't see them while running
xlsfonts.... I have to do manualy ttmkfdir, ttmkfontdir and chkfonfpath
- --add $PWD in each directory to see them! Why?
