Oxford English Dictionary: philosophy
3 "a theory or attitude that guides one’s behaviour".
Incidentally, while I was wrong to say the 2 lines in question
were not adjacent, it was perfectly clear that the "philosophy"
I was referring to was that above,
namely that I would prefer a method that takes me less time to understand
as against one that takes my computer less time to complete.
