Can't get CNN video sound ??

Not a silly question.  Hadn't even thought to check.  It would be the
most obvious thing to do first.  I was afraid I was going to end up
looking reallllllly stupid.

But every thing in the mixer applet is on and set at more than 1/2 of
full volume.
