I had tried the "vesa" driver without much success. Last night, I
tried again:

1. Change xorg.conf like so:

   | sh-3.2# cd /etc/X11
   | sh-3.2# sed -i.bak 's/"mga"/"vesa"/' xorg.conf
   | sh-3.2# diff -u xorg.conf.bak xorg.conf

I've attached the entire /var/log/Xorg.0.log for posterity.

Truer words have never been spoken. I'd seen the thread where you
described your fight against F9's X.org:

  Message-Id: <1212858813.3271.20.camel at localhost.localdomain>
  https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2008-June/thread.html#00759

I installed F8 this morning and it Just Works™. My monitor has a
menu item that causes it to report the vital stats on the video signal
generated by the display adapter. Under F8, I get this:

  Horizontal Frequency: 63.92
  Vertical Frequency: 59.96
  Pixel Clock: 108.03
  Resolution: 1280x1024
  Model No: L91C

I wonder if there was a way to get F9's Xorg to tell me what kind of
out-of-range signal *it* was generating.

I guess I'll have to skip F9 and wait for F10.
