Importing address book and mail in Thunderbird

Why, when you Copy/Burn ~/user to a DVD it changes the "Permissions" on the
Files ?
I had to go into .thunderbird and change permissions to read/write on
all the files for "owner" , they where changed to read only for owner.
This was the FC6 .thunderbird I burnt to a DVD.
