Install to laptop that won't boot DVD

Hi folks.

I've got a Sony Viao laptop that never got FC7 installed because it would not 
boot from the DVD.

I've just tried installing FC8 onto it and I'm having the same problem.

Can anyone suggest the best way to upgrade the laptop - it's currently got FC5 
on it.
