Trouble getting widescreen resolution with video drivers

Hi,
I have two video systems available in my computer,
Intel Q35 Express Chipset and an ATI Radeon X300 128MB card. I am so far
unable to get either one configured to drive a 1680x1050 widescreen LCD
display at its nominal resolution.
I found a patch for the Windows driver for the the Intel Chipset to allow it
to drive that resolution and it works (on my windows machine).

I've installed the latest linux driver from ATI for the Radeon X300 and
played with aticonfig, the ATI catalyst control center, and the
KDE->Administration->Display control panel, but I never see the option to
set the resolution to 1680x1050. Have not tried this one on windows.

Anybody know how to get one of these working at 1680x1050?

Thanks,
Jim
