problem with switchdesk in F9

The usage of "switchdesk kde" has no effect: after calling this cmd, 
logging out and in, still the gnome desktop is present and not the kde 
desktop:

switchdesk kde
Red Hat Linux switchdesk 4.0
Copyright (C) 1999-2004 Red Hat, Inc
Redistributable under the terms of the GNU General Public License
Desktop now set up to run kde.

How can I select the kde desktop?

Also trying "switchdesk twm" has the same effect.
