[oracle at XXX ~]$ kde4-config --version

kde4-config: 1.0

(1) click fedora icon far left
(2) administration>service management (gear icon)
(3) find mysqld and enable,start..wait for the green light

under root

>mysql
mysql>create user fredsilsbee;
mysql>grant all on *.* to fredsilsbee at localhost identified by 'password';

mysql>create database fredx;

get out of root to another user fredxyz


mysql -h localhost -u fredsilsbee -p               this works

mysql -h localhost -u fredsilsbee -p -D fredx         this works

mysql -u fredsilsbee -p -D fredx                                this works

mysqlshow -u fredsilsbee -p fredx                               this works

mysql -u fredsilsbee --password='3141'          this works

fredx is the database name
